Goodwin Living Statement:

The War in Ukraine, Seeking Peace and Supporting the Displaced

On February 24, Russia invaded Ukraine, a democratically governed country of 44 million people. As of March 10, there are more and more deaths, and one of the worst refugee challenges in recent history, with millions displaced and millions more expected to be displaced in the days to come.

Our hearts grieve over the loss of life and the impact of this war on the Ukrainian people and around the world.

As a faith-based non-profit organization founded with Episcopal roots, Goodwin Living has responded with prayers for peace. We have hosted several prayer vigils at our two Life Plan Communities and will continue to offer ways in which we come together in support of peace.

As an organization of intentional welcome, we have committed to work to support those displaced and impacted by war. We have offered our support to our national association, LeadingAge, as it develops pathways for our field of senior living and health care to welcome Ukrainian citizens to America for employment and, in the case of older adults from Ukraine, places where they will be supported, honored and uplifted.

As an organization blessed to have financial investments, over the last week, we have taken actions to seek to minimize any of our financial investments with a tie to Russia, in line with the actions of the Episcopal Church and many respected American businesses.

The expression “stronger together” has served us well during the pandemic. It will serve us well now as we seek peace to come swiftly, support those displaced, and see love ultimately prevail.
