No. Goodwin House at Home (GHAH) is not a homecare provider. We are a Continuing Care at Home (CCAH) program. CCAHs enable seniors to age in place at home rather than move to a retirement community. GHAH offers five different plans, any of which will help you secure your financial future and care. Our plans compare to long-term care insurance benefits and include additional features. For example, we provide coordination for in-home care when you need it. We also coordinate any help you might need at home, whether that’s cleaning and shopping or health checks and appointment setting.
No, your age isn’t a factor for the GHaH program. Unlike most traditional long-term care insurance providers, we have no age barriers as long as participants meet the medical criteria during the application process. You can be in your 70s, 80s or even 90s when you join our program.
Medicare and other health insurance plans cover medical needs. However, neither covers long-term care that many people need as they age. Health insurance, including Medicare, covers part of the costs for doctor visits, medical procedures, hospital stays, medications and ambulance bills. Long-term care insurance covers a range of services associated with a need for assistance in tending to basic activities of daily living, such as bathing, dressing and getting in/out of bed.
Long-term care insurance is crucial for two primary reasons: It can help keep your savings secure and it can provide you with more options for care as you age. The rates you pay often depend on your age, health, gender (women typically pay more than men) and the amount of coverage you’re purchasing.
We can’t answer that question for you. Many factors contribute to the need for long-term care. The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services estimates as many as 52% of those aged 65+ will need long-term care. The need for such care can be the result of an unexpected and sudden change in health, such as that caused by a stroke or a fall, or simply due to living well into our later years.
While you have options for how you plan to pay for care, securing long-term care insurance can go a long way to help defray costs. It is also important to note: You cannot wait until you need help to think about long-term care insurance. You must qualify for coverage in order to purchase it; qualification depends largely on your current age and health.
Your actual costs depend on the level of care you need. The averages below provide a starting point to use as you plan.
These costs can be offset considerably if you have long-term care insurance. Of course, you will want to factor in the cost of insurance as you consider your options. How much you will pay for your policy will vary. Your age and gender factor into the cost, as will the type of coverage you decide to include in your policy. Genworth offers a cost calculator if you want to get a general idea as you explore options.
Our research reveals the following costs of care on average to be:
|Home Care Services – Half Day||$28 / hour||$40,880|
|Home Care Services – Whole Day||$28 / hour||$81,760|
|Assisted Living||$247 / day||$90,155|
|Home Care – 24/7||$402 / day||$146,730|

No, Goodwin House at Home is a Continuing Care at Home (CCAH) program. Based on care and services provided in continuing care retirement communities (CCRCs), most CCAHs offer plans that provide coverage for future costs of care as well as care coordination from an expert. Because GHAH is not a traditional long-term care insurance program, we have options for people who might have passed on the opportunity to purchase long-term care insurance in the past. We often help people get benefits they thought were no longer available to them, or we help people cover gaps in their coverage. Either way, we can help you create a personalized plan.
Choosing Goodwin House at Home over a traditional long-term care insurance policy secures personalized attention from caregivers and health professionals and a Member Services Facilitator to coordinate your changing care needs. Get in touch with us today to start a conversation about your future.
